Week 28 Of A Pregnancy
At 28 weeks pregnant, you’re likely feeling more uncomfortable as your baby continues to grow. Although you still have a few months until your due date, baby is rapidly developing and growing — and you’re approaching the third trimester.
Your baby is now around 16 inches long and weighs roughly 3 pounds. Their skin is becoming smoother and they continue to add layers of fat which will help keep them warm once they’re born. Lung and brain development is continuing rapidly — and baby has become increasingly sensitive to sound and light. Baby can observe and react to the world around them and they may become startled by sudden noises. Their eyes have developed to the point where they may be able to open them in response to light.
Heartburn and indigestion are common during this time, so talk to your healthcare provider about different ways to help prevent them. You may be feeling increasingly large and uncomfortable in your belly and the extra weight may be causing more aches and pains. It’s important to get enough rest and stay active throughout the day — even if it’s just taking a short walk. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes that provide support and make sure you take frequent breaks from any activities.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed during this time, don’t be afraid to ask for help! Connect with other expectant mothers or find resources that provide emotional support throughout the last few months of pregnancy. This is also a great time to start creating your birth plan and thinking about the delivery and postpartum period. Talk to your healthcare provider about any questions or concerns you have and get ready for the third trimester.
