Week 38 Of A Pregnancy
Pregnancy week 38 marks the end of the eleventh month and the beginning of the last month of pregnancy. At this point, the baby should be over 6 pounds and approximately 21 inches long.
As you approach delivery, your body will be feeling even more uncomfortable than usual. You may be feeling particularly tired and achy due to the extra weight of the baby, as well as the frequent Braxton Hicks contractions. During this time, the baby’s lungs should be almost ready to breathe on their own.
Your baby should now have almost all of his or her organs fully developed and functioning. Its brain and nervous system should be mature enough to allow the baby to think and remember. His or her bones should also be fully formed, making the baby strong enough to endure the birth process.
You may also be feeling extra pressure in your abdomen due to the baby’s size, as well as leg cramps and increased backaches. The opening of the cervix may also be dilating, which can be an indication that labor is getting closer.
Week 38 is a very exciting time in your pregnancy. With only a few more weeks left, it is time to start preparing for the big day. Make sure to check in with your doctor or midwife if you have any questions or concerns.
