Week 40 Of A Pregnancy

Pregnancy week 40 marks the beginning of the thirteenth week of pregnancy, the last week of your pregnancy. At this point, the baby should be over 7 pounds and a little over 21 inches long. You may be feeling very tired, due to the extra weight of the baby and the frequent Braxton Hicks contractions.

The baby’s lungs should be fully developed and mature and will be ready to breathe on their own as soon as they are born. His or her brain and nervous system should also be fully developed, giving the baby the ability to think and remember. The baby’s bones should also be fully formed, making the baby strong and ready to take on the world.

Your baby should now be in the head-down position, ready for delivery. As the baby continues to grow, extra pressure will be put on your abdomen, making it harder to breathe. You may also experience increased backaches, as well as leg cramps.

Week 40 is a very special time in your pregnancy. With the baby almost full term, it is time to start preparing for the big day. Make sure to check in with your doctor or midwife if you have any questions or concerns.
