At 31 weeks pregnant, your baby continues to grow and mature. They are now about 18.5 inches long and weigh close to 6 pounds. Their skin is especially soft and smooth and they are now covered in a protective, waxy layer called lanugo.

Baby’s organs are continuing to mature and they’re able to practice breathing, movements, and regulating their internal organs. As baby continues to grow, their movements are likely becoming more noticeable and their hiccups may make an appearance.

You may be feeling extra tired as a result of the extra weight and swelling in your feet, ankles, and legs may be more pronounced. Take time throughout the day to rest and lean into any support you have from friends and family. Staying active is important so aim to get at least 30 minutes of exercise throughout the day even if it’s just a walk around the block.

It’s important to keep up with regular prenatal checkups and discuss any questions or concerns that arise with your healthcare provider or midwife. Now is an ideal time to start gathering information about labour and delivery, create a birth plan, and familiarize yourself with the hospital or birthing center you plan to deliver at.

Take good care of yourself, get adequate rest, eat nutritious food, and drink plenty of fluids. As we approach the third trimester, connect with other expectant mothers and lean into support from family and friends.
