Cheapest Country for IVF

Last reviewed 2026-10-27

There is no single cheapest country, and anyone who gives you one without asking what treatment you need is selling something. The honest answer depends on three things: whether you need donor eggs, how many cycles you are likely to need, and how far you are travelling. Change any one of them and the ranking changes. What we can give you is the method that produces your answer — and a warning about the number everyone compares.

Why league tables of IVF prices are misleading

Published comparisons rank countries by advertised package price. That figure is not comparable across borders, because packages contain different things. One includes medication; one includes the frozen transfer; one tests four embryos and another tests eight; one quotes per cycle and another per attempt. Ranking those numbers against each other produces a table that looks authoritative and means nothing.

Worse, the ranking ignores the two variables that dominate the real total: how many cycles you need, and whether the treatment you need is available there at all.

The eligibility question comes before the price question

This catches people out constantly, and it is the first thing to settle because it eliminates countries outright rather than ranking them.

If you need…What to check firstExample
Donor eggsWhether donation is permitted at all, waiting time, and anonymity rulesTürkiye prohibits donor gametes — its regulation defines treatment as using the wife's own egg and the husband's sperm. Cyprus permits donation with short waits. See IVF Turkey.
Treatment as a single woman or unmarried coupleMarital-status restrictionsTürkiye requires applicants to be married, checked on documents. Several other countries restrict treatment similarly.
Treatment over a certain ageAge caps, which are sometimes legal and sometimes clinic policyVaries widely; this is a common reason people travel at all.

A country that is 40% cheaper but cannot legally provide the treatment you need is not cheaper. It is unavailable. Settle eligibility before you open a single price list.

The method that gives you your own answer

  1. Price a complete attempt, not a cycle

Stimulation, collection, ICSI, culture to day 5, freezing, first-year storage and one frozen transfer. If any of those is a separate line, add it. You will need all of them.

  2. Add medication at each clinic's own written estimate

Not a figure from a comparison site. The clinic's own number, for your likely protocol. This is the single largest omission in overseas package pricing.

  3. Add travel for two trips

Collection and transfer happen in different cycles, weeks apart. Then ask whether the clinic accepts monitoring scans done in your own country — if it does, each trip gets shorter and the overseas option gets meaningfully cheaper.

  4. Multiply by the number of cycles implied by the clinic's own outcome data

Ask for live birth per cycle started for your age band. This step is where cheap countries sometimes stop being cheap, and where an expensive clinic with better outcomes sometimes wins.

  5. Finally, ask the repeat price

Many programmes discount the second and third cycle, and the discount differs enough between clinics to reorder your shortlist.

What the search data says about where people actually go

Not where the cheapest prices are — where the treatment they need is available. Measured English-language demand for IVF abroad is dominated by Cyprus, and the French-language equivalent is dominated by Spain. Both are donor-egg destinations. Türkiye, which has far more clinics and lower prices than either, is barely searched for in English — because the treatment most of those searchers want is one Turkish law does not permit.

That is the clearest possible illustration of the point on this page: the market does not follow price. It follows eligibility, and then price.

Which country is cheapest for IVF?

There is no single answer. It depends on whether you need donor eggs, how many cycles you are likely to need and how far you travel. Compare complete attempts including medication, the frozen transfer and travel, multiplied by the cycles the clinic's own outcome data implies.

Where is the cheapest IVF in Europe?

Advertised package prices are lowest in lower-cost economies, but the comparison only holds once medication, the frozen transfer and travel are included and eligibility is settled. A country that cannot legally provide the treatment you need is not a cheaper option.

Is IVF abroad really cheaper?

Per cycle, substantially. Across a course of treatment it depends on outcomes and on how many trips are needed. Done properly — complete attempts, medication in, two cycles priced — the saving is often still large, but it is smaller than package prices suggest.

What is the catch with cheap IVF abroad?

Usually scope: medication excluded, fewer embryos covered, or the frozen transfer billed separately. Occasionally it is eligibility — the treatment you need is not permitted there.
